In the threadbare ring of Circus Britannica, the tensions created by economic uncertainty, political radicalism and immigration are played out by performers trying against the odds to make a life in the country they thought they knew, and that they have risked so much to come to. Circus Britannica is touring England — but it is also England. The play uses this idea to explore controversial political themes such as far right politics and violence against women in a highly theatrical and I hope surprising and engaging way; through circus acts, characters and atmosphere.
