Shaun has been lead artist or creative partner on a wide range of writing and performing projects around the UK, in community arts and education settings. He has worked with the talented and inspired, the disenfranchised and hard to engage, the addicted and imprisoned. He has delivered workshops for people to find their creative potential in schools, colleges, universities, theatres, youth centres, festivals, mental health service day centres, elderly persons’ accommodation and centres, secure mental institution wards, bail hostels, prisons and expensive public schools.

Some key projects include:

2008 – Devisor/director of script in hand performance at The Egg (Bath Theatre Royal) for Bath Literature Festival. (Devised shows developed over six months with pupils from eight Bath and North East Somerset schools.)

2007 – Writer for play with high security prisoners at Portland Young Offenders Institute.

2006/7 – Writer/director for a large community play for Portishead, for Theatre Orchard Project.

2006 – Devisor/director for a show by teenage writers in Dorset, for Lighthouse Theatre , Poole and Activate Theatre Agency.

2006 – Devisor/director for Bath Theatre Royal youth theatre summer school and autumn productions.

2004 – Writer and director for a major youth theatre piece for Rotherham Arts Festival, devised and performed by pupils from Dinnington School, produced as a site-specific production in a steel mill restored as a heritage centre.

2004 – Devisor of ‘self image’ project, Yeovil Excluded Pupil Centre.

2002/3 – Writer, devisor and lyricist for National Youth Music Theatre one-week residential masterclasses.

2003 – Writer/devisor for ‘In Our Own Voices’ project, devised performance based on verbatim work with diverse immigrant groups who had made Walsall their home.

2001/9 – Writer in schools in the SW for Threshold Creative Writing Prize.

2000 – Project leader, Learning Curve youth arts festival (performance, digital and media arts), Bath and North East Somerset communities.

1999/2000 – Writer for Finding a Voice, schools poetry on the Internet project for Poetry Can (Bristol and North East Somerset).

1999 – Lead artist (writer) for Word for Word Community Arts Project, North Warwickshire for under-achieving, at risk and special needs groups, care centres, summer schools, youth clubs and young homeless groups. This project was nationally recognised as part of the Year of Reading and its climax in Leamington Spa was televised.

1999 – Project Leader for Coleshill (BW Birmingham) youth play.

1999 – Project Co-ordinator, Poetry Can (Bristol) Life Lines Poetry project.

1997/2003 – Visiting writer to various SW schools for the ACE Writers in Schools scheme.

1997/1999 – Various community and youth arts projects for Warwickshire Social Services, based in day care centres for young people with disabilities and special needs, and for Take a Break respite care charity.

1995/6 – Writer in Somervale School for Bath Literature Festival project.

1995 – Video and Film Project Manager, Warwickshire Probation Service leading to video project as script writer/co-devisor in Leamington bail hostel.

1995 – Project Manager and lead artist, Atherstone Yards Community play project, with young adults with special needs, mainstream school students and community and volunteer groups, N.Warwickshire.

1994 – Director/writer for Redwood House Hostel devised performance project with the homeless young people.

1994/5/6 – Lead Artist, United Bristol Healthcare Trust (Rehab): managing various writing projects for long stay residents and mental health survivors in the community.

1993/4 – Project Designer/Manager for Rural Images project for Warwickshire Social Services (community arts: landscape installation for promenade performances, plus anthology). Mixed client group: special needs groups from social services, students from special schools, community and volunteer groups. Televised as a 24hr ‘Challenge Annika’ TV show.

1993 – Writer for ‘Lifestories Project’ for Warwickshire Social Services.

1992/3 – Visiting author, for Walsall Community Arts Team, with special brief to develop community and youth arts work (in performance).

1992/3 – Arts Development Worker for Thamesdown, and the Wyvern Theatre.

1992/3 – ‘Writer on the Move’ Writer in Residence for Warwickshire Libraries/West Midlands Arts. (Workshops and development work).
